Admission & Day Treatment
Our dedicated team of professional staff are committed to providing patients with the highest standards of care. Throughout our patients’ stay, from admission to discharge, we ensure each individual patient is treated with the utmost respect and dignity.
On our Forms and Links page, we have provided the admission forms you will require for your fay admission. Please fill these out prior to your first visit and bring them along with you. If you have any questions about accessing these forms, or filling them out, please contact a member of our nursing staff by calling our office location. It is sometimes helpful to write questions down and bring them with you on the day of your treatment.
The nursing staff will sit and discuss your treatment schedule, medication, side effects and your overall visit with you and your significant person prior to your discharge. In addition, please feel free to bring along a family member/support person to sit with you during your treatment. As we are a busy treatment centre, we do need to limit each person receiving treatment to 1 support person.
Day Of Admission
For your treatment date, please dress in casual, comfortable clothes unless otherwise instructed. Most treatments will be administered in a recliner treatment chair. On occasion, you may be required to lie on a bed for a period of time. If your condition does not enable you to sit in a chair for any length of time, please contact the nursing staff prior to your admission to ensure availability of a bed.
Your length of stay will be dependent on the treatment you will be receiving, so please discuss this with a member of the staff. Patients receiving chemotherapy will be given a chemotherapy flow chart. This will document the drugs you have been given, follow up appointments, instructions for medications and required blood tests. This is important information for your local doctor or for any other doctor you may attend during the course of your treatment. Please remember to bring your flow chart to SMDCC each visit. You will also be given an after-hours emergency contact number for the Oncology Nurse Consultant.
If you have any questions regarding your treatment or related issues, please direct these to a member of the nursing staff. If you have questions regarding your accounts or payments, please direct these to our accounts department. Any questions regarding the prognosis of your illness and outcome or evaluation of your treatment should be directed to your treating specialist.
Please bring any regular medications that you may require during your stay, such as: pain medication or fluid tablets. Any medication you may need in relation to your treatment will be dispensed from our onsite pharmacy. Please advise us if you have a Pension, Health Care, or Concession card prior to your first visit.
If you have not been given specific information concerning the medication you will be receiving or other specifics concerning your care at SMDCC, please contact the nursing staff and they will arrange for it to be mailed to you prior to the commencement of your treatment.
Light refreshments will be provided to all patients attending SMDCC. If your treatment requires you to stay for an extended period of time, a light lunch will be provided (sandwiches/salads). Please notify the staff of SMDCC prior to your admission if you have any special dietary requirements as you may need to provide your own food.
